The Words and Music of Noël Coward

Bright Young People

Created and directed by Craig Slaight
Musical direction by Jane Hammett

A.C.T. Young Conservatory performing
at Zeum Theater

In this world premiere production, the A.C.T. Young Conservatory dishes up a brilliant, buoyant tribute to one of the greatest theater artists of all time. Bright Young People showcases everything you love about Noël Coward—the songs, the wit, the style—with scenes and music from his greatest hits, such as The Vortex, Design for Living, and Hay Fever, as well as lesser known gems, some which haven't been produced since the 1920s.

Set in an English garden, Bright Young People brims with heart and humor as it follows the relationships of four young couples living in the 1930s. With special permission from the Noël Coward Estate in London, Young Conservatory Director Craig Slaight enjoyed unprecedented access to the Coward archive in creating this imaginative new revue, specifically designed for A.C.T.'s audacious cast of young actors.

An Unexpected Audience with Sir Noël
posted by Craig Slaight, A.C.T. Young Conservatory Director

"Your formal training at A.C.T. is demanding, individual, and intense and is designed to refine your sense of theatrical truth by tuning your human instrument—your voice, body, intellect, and imagination."

Melissa Smith, Conservatory Director

A.C.T. seeks to develop the artist in every actor. We cultivate educated men and women of the theater with a critical sense who will energize and advance performance in America. Our training prepares actors to succeed in all aspects of the profession, but our primary goal is to prepare artists for a lifelong investment in the theater.

Our curriculum combines rigorous training in the practical disciplines of acting with the study, rehearsal, and performance of classical and contemporary works drawn from the world repertoire. We believe that actors who have an intellectual and visceral grasp of dramatic literature, who recognize a relationship between new and classical work, are uniquely prepared to collaborate in the development of new dramatic forms.
