Winner of The Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation Theatre Visions Fund Award
In this smart and sexy new play, two American architects dive into a high-stakes competition to design a memorial in Israel. They're also in love—but don't know that they are vying against one another. Higher whisks us from sleek New York studios to the shores of the Sea of Galilee, as the architects confront their own pasts in a race to make their mark on history. Faith, family, desire, and design fuel this thrilling new work, featuring A.C.T. core acting company member René Augesen and A.C.T. favorite Andrew Polk (The Homecoming, November).
"A smart and sexy play about the need to memorialize the past in a culture obsessed with the now . . . tickles the mind and the funny bone" —Contra Costa Times
"A masterpiece! An intense and captivating look at architecture [and] Israeli culture and history, Higher challenges audiences to look at their lives and consider why they do what they do. Theater heaven!" —Broadway World
"Directed with an extraordinary sensitivity to ego, motivation, and how to communicate a creative person's personal and professional frustrations to an audience. Perloff's script is smart, touching, and abrasive in all the right places." —The Huffington Post
"Higher will take you to a higher place without any illegal substances. It's smart, electric, vital, funny, and humane and will make you realize a lot you may not have known about love and competition, creativity and identity, and how closely allied real art is to the deeper recesses of the heart." —Michael Krasny, KQED
"Unique, fresh, [and] intelligent" —Stark Insider
"Satisfying and entertaining . . . a drama with substance" —Chad Jones, theaterdogs
