In A.C.T.'s world-premiere production of José Rivera's Brainpeople, wealthy Mayannah (Lucia Brawley, center) invites two strangers once a year to partake in a dark feast commemorating the death of her parents. Here, Rosemary (René Augesen, right) settles into a festive mood before the fireworks begin, while Ani (Sona Tatoyan, left) has an inkling of the chilling surprises to come.

Unstable Rosemary (René Augesen, left) becomes less predictable and more manic as Ani (Sona Tatoyan) realizes with fear that her various "brainpeople" have taken over.

Rosemary (René Augesen) has succumbed to the latest of her "brainpeople"—Tom, a hurt, angry young boy, furiously brandishing a knife and revealing an arm riddled with self-inflicted scars.

Ani (Sona Tatoyan, left) shivers in pain and longing as she realizes that Rosemary (René Augesen, right) has become Miguel, the mysterious lover who left Ani jaded and desperate.

Mayannah (Lucia Brawley) looks on in childlike expectation as she finds that her guests, Rosemary (René Augesen, left) and Ani (Sona Tatoyan, right), have found a hidden connection that links all three.
