A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program Pulls Out the Dancing Shoes for Sweet Charity
Wednesday, September 2, 2009
One-weekend-only event features M.F.A. Program class of 2010.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 2, 2009—The A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) Program presents a fresh spin on one of the greatest musical comedies of all time. Neil Simon's Sweet Charity, with lyrics by Dorothy Fields and music by Cy Coleman, follows the romantic ups and downs of Charity Hope Valentine, a cockeyed optimist who believes in fairy tales, despite all evidence to the contrary. Directed and choreographed by Gia Solari and music directed by Robert Rutt, this special stripped-down presentation features the talents of the A.C.T. M.F.A. Program class of 2010 and brings the Broadway hits "Big Spender," "If My Friends Could See Me Now," and "Rich Man's Frug" to Zeum Theater (Yerba Buena Gardens, Fourth and Howard Streets, San Francisco). Sweet Charity runs for only one weekend: September 11–13, 2009. Tickets are $10.50 and can be purchased by calling A.C.T. Ticket Services at 415.749.2ACT or online at www.act-sf.org.
After the San Francisco performance, Sweet Charity will be presented again at Santa Rosa's Wells Fargo Center for the Arts (50 Mark West Springs Road, Santa Rosa) on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets for the Santa Rosa performance are $20 and can be purchased by calling 707.546.3600 or at www.wellsfargocenterarts.org.
Sweet Charity is made possible by a generous grant from The Bernard Osher Foundation with additional support provided by The William G. Gilmore Foundation and donors to A.C.T.'s season gala, Illuminate the Night.
