Summer Acting Classes and Actor Training Program

Summer Training Congress

Serious about acting? Join us for our
intensive 5- and 2-week summer sessions
in San Francisco.

World-Class Training
This summer, transform your talent as an actor by training at our world-renowned, Tony Award–winning theater company and actor training institution, located right in the heart of San Francisco's theater district. Ideal for anyone serious about acting, the Summer Training Congress (STC), now in its 38th season, attracts a distinguished and diverse group of students, including actors and former STC trainees Teri Hatcher, Camryn Manheim, Don Johnson, Jennifer Grey, and Omar Metwally. Gain an experience that is uniquely A.C.T. with master classes taught by A.C.T. core company actors, seminars with A.C.T.'s artistic team, and personalized instruction with A.C.T.'s faculty of working artists.

The A.C.T. Experience
Our newly renovated studios and black box studio theater provide the perfect training ground for burgeoning acting careers. At the STC, you'll share rehearsal spaces with A.C.T.'s mainstage productions, which offers students the chance to interact with professional actors, ask questions, and observe rehearsals. A few blocks away is our magnificent Beaux Arts–style theater—one of San Francisco's most popular cultural destinations. Also during your training, students can attend workshops and staged readings of new works at A.C.T., as well as Conservatory Hours—exclusive Q&A sessions with successful actors, directors, producers, writers, and alumni. After intense hours in the studio or on the stage, we also encourage STC students to enjoy San Francisco's vibrant neighborhoods, parks, museums, and more than 300 resident theater companies with a special package of discounts.

The Training Program
Five-Week Intensive: Core Skills
Students develop a broad range of acting skills in classes taught by A.C.T.'s core acting company, conservatory faculty, and distinguished guest artists. Training is centered on core skill classes such as acting, speech and voice, movement, improvisation, and audition technique. The five-week session will culminate in a performance project in Hastings Studio Theater.

Two-Week Intensive: Classical Acting
This session focuses on the specific craft of performing Shakespeare and other classical texts. Training includes acting, speech and voice—in particular the challenges of speaking verse—movement, and text, as well as monologue, sonnet, and scene work.

The Total Actor Package
Enjoy both intensives and maximize your summer training experience at a special discount. Enroll in the five-week intensive and save 50% on the two-week course!

STC Students
The STC is ideal for students considering a graduate degree in theater or a performance career, and for professional actors and teachers who want exposure to new methods or to brush up on skills. STC participants must be 19 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.

About A.C.T.
A.C.T. was the first American theater to win a Tony Award for the quality of its training program as well as its performances. A.C.T. was also the first independent theater in the nation to win academic accreditation and the authority to grant a master of fine arts degree in acting. Because A.C.T. is accredited, you can earn undergraduate academic credit upon satisfactory completion of the STC.
