The Koret Foundation presents a series of exciting panel discussions at A.C.T. Each panel features acclaimed artists who illuminate the ways in which a theater affects and strengthens a community, the responsibilities of the artist in modern society, and the challenges of the creative process.

All Koret events are free and open to the public.

A Candid Talk with José Rivera

Koret Panel

On April 18, 2009, famed playwright José Rivera joined us for a Koret Panel to discuss his life as a writer, his artistic process, and the making of Boleros for the Disenchanted, which is based on his parent's marriage. The discussion features a brief Q&A with audience members and is moderated by director Carey Perloff.

The Inner 'I': How Artists See Themselves

Lotfi Mansouri, celebrated opera director and the general director emeritus of the San Francisco Opera; Judy Kaye, the Tony Award–winning star of Souvenir; and internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade visited A.C.T. on February 23, 2009 for a panel discussion focusing on the different ways artists view themselves and how these self-images affect their work. A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff moderated the discussion.

A Conversation with John Guare

Acclaimed playwright John Guare, author of Six Degrees of Separation, The House of Blue Leaves, and A.C.T.'s Rich and Famous visited the American Conservatory Theater on December 13, 2008 to take part in a candid conversation with A.C.T. Dramaturg Michael Paller. Guare shared stories about working in the American theater over the last four decades and talked about his new version of Rich and Famous, which includes major rewrites in preparation for the show's first revival since 1976.
