A.C.T. Fellowships

A.C.T.’s fellowships provide advanced, hands-on educational training and mentorship in theater production and administration. Through exposure to professionals at work, and to the audiences they serve, A.C.T.’s fellowships provide a springboard to a professional life in the theater. Our fellows have gone on to attend renowned graduate programs, to work in major regional theaters, and to freelance as directors, designers, and stage managers.

The Fellowship Program is a vital part of the thriving circle of artists, artisans, administrators, and educators that make A.C.T. one of the nation’s most respected arts institutions. Each fellow’s learning experience is nurtured and developed with the guidance of a staff mentor. At the beginning of each fellowship season fellows will meet one on one with their mentors to set learning goals to shape the curriculum for their fellowship.

Why A.C.T.?

A.C.T. fellows have access to a variety of benefits designed to integrate them into the artistic life of the company and the community. Some of the benefits fellows will experience are a cohort orientation week at the start of the season, monthly seminars with senior staff from across the institution, organized mixers with other fellowship programs in the Bay Area, and the opportunity to produce their own Fellowship Project in the spring. These experiences help deepen their understanding of the inner workings of a LORT regional theater.

In addition, fellows receive complimentary tickets to all A.C.T. productions and opportunities to attend other Bay Area theaters. Fellows receive access to complimentary theater classes through Studio A.C.T. Fellows are also encouraged to attend student projects in our conservatory, hour long moderated discussions “conservatory hours” with guest artists, and to take advantage of our two chair policy for observation of most rehearsals.
