About A.C.T.

From training to performance, the San Francisco Semester offers students a unique opportunity not just to watch theater but to enter into the life of a professional theater company. An extraordinary community of theater artists, A.C.T. fosters an atmosphere of apprenticeship, where students learn alongside professionals—and everyone has something to learn from one another, whether onstage or in the classroom. From our top-ranked Master of Fine Arts Program to our internationally renowned Young Conservatory, the A.C.T. Conservatory trains hundreds of actors each year. Celebrated alumni include Elizabeth Banks, Benjamin Bratt, Annette Bening, Darren Criss, Harry Hamlin, Anika Noni Rose, Anna Deavere Smith, and Denzel Washington.

With a commitment to world-class performance and education, each season A.C.T. unleashes big, bold productions with innovative artists on our grand, 1,000-seat mainstage, as well as more intimate productions at venues including our downtown black box performance space, The Costume Shop, and A.C.T.’s new 283-seat theater, The Strand in San Francisco’s emerging Central Market arts neighborhood.

American Conservatory Theater is committed to diverse educational and theatrical experiences and welcomes students from across the globe. A.C.T. is accredited by the Western Association of School and Colleges (W.A.S.C.)* and our M.F.A. Program in Acting, the Summer Training Congress (STC), and the San Francisco Semester are approved by the Student Exchange and Visitor’s Program (SEVIS) to issue F-1 visas to eligible international students.
