Course Descriptions

Acting Performance Project

Designed for students with previous acting experience and training, this intensive course allows students to apply objective, character, obstacle, physicality, ensemble and other basic acting tools to a performance piece. Previous performance projects have consisted of carefully curated scenes & monologues, short plays or original devised pieces that embrace the unique make-up of that particular class of students. Students focus on character development and the dynamics of the play’s language, rather than technical production skills. This class culminates in an open class presentation.

Cabaret Project

This class will expand on acting, voice, and staging techniques as they apply to actors working in musical theater today. The class emphasizes both ensemble and solo work, and culminates in a performance at the end of the session.

Improvisation

Improvisation is a valuable tool for freeing the imagination, gaining confidence in auditions, and deepening emotional connection. Class will also include imaginative and physical character creation. Class exercises focus on spontaneity, remaining present, and the power of positive choice. This course is a wonderful tool for developing courage and flexibility onstage.

Musical Theater Dance

This course provides students with the technique and experience to meet the specific challenges and demands of dancing in musical theater productions. Designed to give students a solid foundation in the movement skills required by today’s stage musicals, this class culminates in a presentation of the various styles of dance in musical theater.

Singing and Dancing

Basic singing and dancing skills are introduced, with focus on accommodating a variety of experience levels. Tools will be applied to a variety of music-theater genres.

Voice and Speech for the Actor

Focusing on one of the actor’s most creative and vital tools, this class is designed to shape and expand voice and speech techniques. With a foundation of breath, relaxation, and alignment, students will explore pitch, volume, articulation, and resonance to expand the freedom and flexibility of the voice. These components will be applied to contemporary scene work.
