Are you a recent A.C.T. Conservatory student? Looking for an opportunity to experience a performance opportunity; from audition, to rehearsal, to tech, to performance? The Conservatory Showcase Class may be just the thing for you!

PURPOSE

The Conservatory Showcase Class offers recent A.C.T. students an opportunity to experience auditioning for a project, rehearsing with a professional director towards a performance, participating in a technical rehearsal as a performer and ensemble, and performing live before an audience in one of A.C.T.’s professional theater spaces, all in a brave learning environment.

AUDITION ELIGIBILITY

Applicants can audition for the Conservatory Showcase Class if they meet ONE of the following requirements:

  • they have attended one of A.C.T.’s intensive actor training programs since June 2022. (including Young Conservatory’s Summer Musical Theater Institute.)
  • they have attended three full-length classes in Young Conservatory since June 2024.
  • they have attended three full-length classes in Studio A.C.T. since June 2024.

Eligibility includes classes enrolled in Spring 2026.

AUDITION DATES AND LOCATION

On the audition application, applicants will select all dates and times they are available to audition. Auditions will be scheduled during the following potential dates and times:

  • Weds, April 22: 5:30 – 9 p.m.
  • Fri, April 24: 5:30 – 9 p.m.
  • Sat, April 25: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Audition time slots will be assigned based on a combination of when the application is received and overall time-slot availability.

Auditions will be held at 30 Grant Avenue.

AUDITION PROCESS

Applicants may audition to present a monologue, scene, song, duet, or group project.

Musical auditions must provide their own music track. There will be no live accompanist. A.C.T. will. provide 2 chairs, a long wooden bench, and 2 acting cubes. All other props. furniture, or costumes must be supplied by the auditioner.

Selection into the Showcase Class will be based off an audition’s readiness for rehearsal, its showcasing of a student’s learning growth, as well as showcasing a variety of the conservatory’s programs, and create an entertaining collection of presentations.

AUDITION APPLICATION

The Audition Application Submission period is Mon, Mar 30 - Wed, Apr 15.

The application will ask about basic contact information, details about audition materials, availability, and a brief two to three sentence statement of interest.

REHEARSAL PROCESS

All material must be memorized, staged, and choreographed prior to the first rehearsal.

Selections will receive the following rehearsal:

  • Monologues: two 30-minute rehearsals.
  • Scenes: two 45-minutes rehearsals.
  • Group projects: two 1-hour rehearsals.

Individual rehearsals will be assigned and distributed at the orientation rehearsal. They will occur at 30 Grant Avenue.

During Tech Rehearsal, students will receive an orientation on how to participate, including utilizing downtime, participating in an ensemble to create transitions, and how to use their tech time wisely.

Invited Dress will be a full run in performance conditions. This will be your chance to experience performance in real time.

Tech and Dress Rehearsal will occur at the Reuff Theater at 1127 Market St.

PERFORMANCES

All applicants must be eligible to attend the full performance period, including call-time.

Performances: Fri, June 5; & Sat, June 6; 6:30 – 10:00 p.m.

Performances will occur at the Reuff Theater at 1127 Market St.

PERFORMANCE FEEDBACK

Two theater professionals will attend each performance and give feedback to each monologue, scene, or group project, to be received within a week of the performances.

CLASS AND PRODUCTION FEES

Each student that enrolls in the class will pay a $100 class fee + a $50 production fee.

The fee covers facilities, faculty, production staffing, crew, house management, as well as promotional costs for the class and presentation.

Scholarships are available to cover the class fee, but all students must pay the production fee.
