"Á la Carte" Classes

These classes meet either M/W/F or Tu/Thu for four weeks from June 7-July 2, giving students the ability to build their own schedule.

This course offers a guide to entering the professional world of acting. In addition to covering the basic principles of acting technique—including objective/obstacle, circumstance, inner monologue, sense memory, and improvisation—this course explores the world of auditioning and industry professionalism. From preparing a dynamic presentation of contrasting monologues to compiling headshots, resumes, and other auditioning materials, students will gain the skills to be comfortable in a variety of audition settings and learn how to develop techniques to sustain their place in a competitive arts world.

This course is designed to be a counterpart to the Young Conservatory’s College Prep program. It is highly recommended that those who enroll in College Prep also take Audition Technique & Repertoire Selection.

Class Dates: June 7–July 2, Mon/Wed/Fri from 10–11:30 a.m. via Zoom
Tuition: $375

As Netflix, HBO, and other media channels revolutionize the television and film industry with increasingly complex and riveting scripts, we are seeing more crossover than ever between stage and tv/film actors, making it necessary for young actors to have training in the unique protocols of the on-camera industry. Through scenes and exercises, this exploratory course of acting for the camera will explore/review fundamental acting vocabulary, teach practicable on-camera technique, and provide students with a practical understanding of this exciting field. This course will culminate in a public online presentation featuring on-camera work performed by students and a Q&A.

Intensive:  June 7–June 30, Mon/Wed from 3–4:30 p.m. via Zoom
Tuition: $250

The College Prep Intensive is for rising Juniors and Seniors planning to apply to a competitive BA or BFA program in Acting and/or Musical Theater in Fall 2022 or 2023. Applying to a theater program is complicated and time-consuming, and both students (and parents!) need a support team to help navigate the stressful process.

  • How do you know which programs are the best fit for you?
  • What are best practices for creating a timeline/tracking system to keep up with the multiple requirements involving the Common App, Acceptd, transcripts, test scores, financial aid applications, and more?
  • How do you identify audition material that will highlight your strengths and get you noticed?
  • How can you prepare a quality pre-screen video by the deadline(s) without losing your mind (or breaking the bank)?
  • How can you empower yourself to battle performance/audition anxiety in order to prepare a professional and confident audition package?

Students will work in pairs and in small or large group configurations throughout the course, and should expect to complete assignments related to their particular program interests in between sessions. Industry guest artists, theater professionals, and parents who have gone through the process will be included in panels. Additionally, students who complete this course will come away with a list of safety, target, and reach schools that are personalized to their needs and interests, and a timeline for meeting deadlines. It is highly recommended that those who enroll in College Prep Nuts and Bolts also take Audition Technique & Repertoire Selection.

Limited to 12 students.

Intensive Dates: June 8–July 1, Tues/Thurs from 10–11:30 a.m. via Zoom
