CLASS LISTINGS

Intensives

Intensives run M-F for either 1 or 2 weeks.

Interested in acting in film and television? Now’s your chance to get in front of the camera in the 2-Week Acting Intensive: On Camera. Students of all levels of experience welcome. Actors will explore:

  • Fundamental acting tools including objective, obstacle, actions, tactics, and point of view
  • Theatrical skills such as scene analysis, vocal production, and physical awareness
  • On-camera acting techniques versus stage techniques
  • Audition preparation and filming yourself
  • The business and industry of film, television, and commercial acting

Classes will meet online via Zoom in two blocks (one 60-min and one 90-min), separated by an hour lunch break. There will be some assignments and memorization in between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group "public" showing (families, Zoom in or gather around the computer!) to present projects and filmed scenes. Have fun with peers while gaining some valuable acting skills!

Session: June 7–June 18, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.–2:30 p.m. (break from 12–1 p.m.) via Zoom

Total daily screen time of 2.5 hours, with activities designed to create movement and variety within and between sessions.

Tuition: $450

This advanced intensive offers serious middle school actors the chance to take their musical theater performance and audition skills to a new level. Through one-on-one, small group, full group and guest panels led by professional theater artists and A.C.T. staff, participants will review foundational knowledge and vocabulary, and understand the techniques professional actors use to prepare a well-rounded song performance. Topics will include: 

  • Vocal technique such as breath control, articulation, rhythm, and vocal production
  • Sight singing or learning music quickly
  • Song interpretation and portraying character physically and vocally
  • Researching specific shows and characters & best resources for musical theater performers
  • Performing over a digital platform and self-tapes

Classes will meet online via Zoom in two blocks (one 60-min and one 90-min), separated by an hour lunch break. There will be some assignments and memorization in between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group "public" showing (families, gather around the computer!) to present projects and songs rehearsed in class. Have fun with peers while gaining some valuable musical theater skills!

Tuition: $495

This course offers a guide to entering the professional world of acting, with a special focus on gaining confidence in your auditioning skills. In addition to covering the basic principles of acting technique—including objective/obstacle, circumstance, inner monologue, and improvisation—this course explores the world of auditioning and industry professionalism. Along with text analysis and character creation, this intensive will cover:

  • Selection of appropriate audition materials
  • Tackling cold reads and callbacks
  • Resumes and Headshots
  • Audition etiquette and professionalism

Classes will meet online via Zoom in two blocks (one 60-min and one 90-min), separated by an hour lunch break. There will be some assignments and memorization in between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group "public" showing (families, Zoom in or gather around the computer!) to present monologues rehearsed in class. Have fun with peers while gaining some valuable acting skills!

Session Dates: July 6–July 16, Monday through Friday at 12 p.m.–3:30 p.m. (break from 1–2 p.m.) via Zoom

Total daily screen time of 2.5 hours, with activities designed to create movement and variety within and between sessions.

Tuition: $405

From classics like West Side Story and Into the Woods to contemporary favorites like Hamilton and Wicked, actors will delve into the songs of iconic musicals from Broadway. Using hit solos and group numbers from these shows, actors will explore:

  • Vocal technique such as breath control, articulation, rhythm, and vocal production
  • Choreography and character embodiment
  • Song interpretation and phrasing

Classes will meet online via Zoom in two blocks (one 60-min and one 90-min), separated by an hour lunch break. There will be some assignments and memorization in between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group "public" showing (families, Zoom in or gather around the computer!) to present projects and songs rehearsed in class. Have fun with peers while gaining some valuable musical theater skills! Students of all levels of experience welcome.

Session Dates: July 19–July 30, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.–2:30 p.m. (break from 12–1 p.m.) via Zoom

Total screen time of 2.5 hours daily, with activities designed to create movement and variety within and between sessions.

Tuition: $450

The 1-Week Acting Intensive  is designed to give young actors a foundational knowledge of acting principles, improvisation, and text performance. Students of all levels of experience welcome. Actors will explore:

  • Theatrical skills such as tableaux, gesture, vocal production, and movement
  • Improvisation games
  • Character development through key tools including objective, obstacle, actions, physicality
  • Scene and monologue performance

Classes will meet online via Zoom in two blocks (one 60-min and one 90-min), separated by an hour lunch break. There will be some assignments and memorization in between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group "public" showing (families, Zoom in or gather around the computer!) to present projects, monologues, and scenes rehearsed in class. Have fun with peers while gaining some valuable acting skills!

Session Dates: August 2–August 6, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.–2:30 p.m (break from 12–1 p.m.) via Zoom

Total daily screen time of 2.5 hours, with activities designed to create movement and variety within and between sessions.

Dive into the world of musical theater performance with the 1-Week Musical Theater Intensive. Students of all levels of experience welcome. Actors will explore:

  • Fundamentals of singing such as breath control, articulation, and vocal technique
  • Introduction to dance and improving confidence in movement abilities
  • Song and character interpretation and performance

Classes will meet online via Zoom in two blocks (one 60-min and one 90-min), separated by an hour lunch break. There will be some assignments and memorization in between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group "public" showing (families, Zoom in or gather around the computer!) to present projects, songs, and scenes rehearsed in class. Have fun with peers while gaining some valuable musical theater skills! 

Session Dates: August 9–August 13, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.–2:30 p.m (break from 12–1 p.m.) via Zoom

"Á la Carte" Classes

These classes meet either M/W/F or Tu/Thu for four weeks from June 7-July 2, giving students the ability to build their own schedule.

This intensive is designed for actors who are ready to take the next step into more advanced theater training. Actors will focus on more complex scene work to dig deeper into character creation, techniques, and understanding. The intensive will culminate in a performance for friends and family over Zoom.

Dive into the world of improvisation and physical theater as Actors utilize their skills of imagination and character creation. Actors will focus on spontaneity, remaining present, imaginative play, and the power of positive choice. This course will culminate in a Zoom performance for families with characters and scenes created in class. This course is a wonderful tool for developing courage and flexibility onstage and in life.

Intensive Dates: June 8–July 1, Tues/Thurs from 4:30–5:30 p.m. via Zoom
Tuition: $175

At the heart of theater are stories. In this class, students will begin with fun and imaginative exercises to dive into their own histories and stories. They will then learn techniques shared by theater playwrights and other artists to help create stories from the perspective of characters they create.  A wonderful class for anyone who has ever struggled or been curious with the question “who am I?” and who has an interest in learning how stories can go “from page to stage.” Young artists of all levels of theater experience are welcome in this unique class that’s sure to light up your creativity.
