Join the YC for a tale as old as time! In this new 3-week intensive, young actors will rehearse and perform a condensed 45-minute version of the musical Beauty and the Beast. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

This intensive is designed for young performers with moderate to substantial musical theater experience who can bring a lot of focus, maturity and self-discipline into the rehearsal room. Specific roles will be cast after the first day, with anticipated double-casting of principal roles to allow for more equitable stage time. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater classes, a craft/production design hour, supervised lunch, and an afternoon performance project with a live accompanist. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (July 31) to present the condensed one-act show.

Please note that this course is NOT a drop-in class model, and families should make sure they are prepared to make attendance a priority. Students who register for this class should expect to receive an email from the teacher requesting a video of a memorized monologue and/or song provided from a menu of options before the first day of class. If you have questions about whether this class is a good fit for your child, please email us at YoungConservatory@act-sf.org.
