Middle School Acting Intensives
Schedule: Monday–Friday, June 8–18 (No Class Friday, June 19): 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.
Tuition: $875
Experience an exciting array of theater approaches and material from classic and contemporary plays in this new performance showcase class for ambitious young actors. In this 2-week intensive, students will learn acting fundamentals while working on a combination of monologues, scenes and devised work. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater and production design classes, supervised lunch with other classes, and an afternoon performance project. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (June 18) to present material rehearsed in class.
2-Week Acting Intensive: Performance Showcase is for you if:
You’ve taken some acting classes before and want to sharpen your skills and/or
You’re excited to dive into characters and scenes from an iconic contemporary play and/or
You are ready to learn about multiple acting approaches and participate fully on new material with peers
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, June 29–July 2 (no class Friday, July 3): 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.
Tuition: $400
Dive into scenes with complex characters and layered text from iconic plays in Acting Intensive: Scenes from Stage and Screen. In this 4-day workshop, students will use classic scenes from film, television, and theater in order to build believable characters, analyze text, and respond truthfully to circumstances, scene partners and language. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater and production design classes, supervised lunch with other classes, and an afternoon performance project. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (July 3) to present material rehearsed in class.
4-Day Acting Intensive: Scenes from Stage and Screen is for you if:
- You love acting and are ready to dive deeper into character creation and scene work and/or
- You were inspired to try acting from watching your favorite movie, television show, or play and/or
- You’re interested in pursuing acting in middle school, high school and beyond
Schedule: Monday–Friday, July 13-31: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.

Step into the world of Gods, Monsters, and Half-Bloods! In this new 3-week intensive, young actors will rehearse and perform a condensed 45-minute adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can’t seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. When his mom tells him the truth about where he came from, she takes him to the one place he’ll be safe—Camp Half-Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island). There, Percy learns that the father he never knew is actually Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon Percy finds himself caught up in a mystery that could lead to disastrous consequences. Together with his friends—a satyr and other the demigod daughter of Athena—Percy sets out on a quest to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.
This intensive is designed for young performers with moderate to substantial acting experience who can bring a lot of focus, maturity and self-discipline into the rehearsal room. Specific roles will be cast after the first day, with anticipated double-casting of principal roles to allow for more equitable stage time. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater and production design classes, supervised lunch with other classes, and an afternoon performance project. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (July 31) to present the condensed one-act show.
Please note that this course is NOT a drop-in class model, and families should make sure they are prepared to make attendance a priority. Students who register for this class should expect to receive an email from the teacher requesting a video of a memorized monologue provided from a menu of options before the first day of class. 3-Week Acting Intensive: Percy Jackson is for you if:
- You’ve taken some acting before and are ready for a more advanced level, performance-oriented class and/or
- You’re eager to learn how to use your voice and body to portray characters and tell stories and/or
- You’re ready to commit to a course which will ask you to do significant practice of material, both lines and blocking, outside of class time and/or
- You’re a big fan of the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series and want to bring the beloved characters and scenes to life.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, August 3-7: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.

WHODUNIT?!
In this 1-week intensive led by YC faculty member Andy Alabran, students will devise and prepare an original mini murder mystery full of intrigue and suspense to perform on the last day. Through the process, students will experience a bit of playwriting, acting, directing, design, and a whole lot of collaboration! Intensives include morning theater and production design classes, supervised lunch with other classes, and an afternoon performance project. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (August 7) to present material rehearsed in class.
1-Week Acting Intensive: Murder Mystery is for you if:
- You've taken some theater classes and are curious about a more unique process and/or
- You’re a performer who’s interested in learning how to create original characters for the theater and/or
- You love story building and want to bring your creative ideas to life
Middle School Musical Theater Intensives
Schedule: Monday–Friday, June 8-18 (no class Friday, June 19): 11 a.m.–4 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.

Hone your musical theater performance skills through this 1-week foray into the Best of Broadway! From classics like West Side Story and Chicago to contemporary favorites like Six and Hamilton, performers will explore characters and songs from iconic Broadway musicals over the last 100 years. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater and production design classes, supervised lunch with other classes, and an afternoon performance project with a live accompanist. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (June 18) to present material rehearsed in class.
2-Week Musical Theater Intensive: Best of Broadway is for you if:
- You love to sing and dance and would like to develop your musical theater skill set and/or
- You’re interested in exploring a wide variety of musical theater styles and shows and/or
- You want a fun and energetic introduction to the world of musical theater

Are you a good witch or a bad witch? In this 1-week intensive, students will explore iconic musical theater songs from virtuous heroes and heinous villains. Through shows like Wicked, Les Misérables, Mean Girls, Hadestown and Into the Woods among many others, students will learn the fundamentals of acting, singing, and dancing. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater and production design classes, supervised lunch with other classes, and an afternoon performance project with a live accompanist. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (June 26) to present material rehearsed in class.
1-Week Musical Theater Intensive: Heroes & Villains is for you if:
- You’re excited to explore musical theater for a fun week-long intensive and/or
- You want the challenge of bringing good and bad characters to life on the stage
Schedule: Monday–Friday, July 6-10: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.

There’s no place like home! In this 1-week intensive, students will explore iconic musical theater songs from Oz-inspired shows like Wicked, The Wiz, and The Wizard of Oz. Through solos, duets and ensemble numbers, students will learn the fundamentals of acting, singing, and dancing and practice synthesizing these three skills into performance numbers. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater and production design classes, supervised lunch with other classes, and an afternoon performance project with a live accompanist. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (July 10) to present material rehearsed in class.
1-Week Musical Intensive: The Wonderful World of Oz is for you if:
You’re excited to explore musical theater for a fun week-long intensive and/or
You want the challenge of bringing some magical and iconic characters to life on the stage
Schedule: Monday–Friday, July 20-31: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.

This 2-week intensive focuses on essentials for the “triple threat” musical theater performer: acting, singing, and dancing. Actors will develop performance skills through solo songs, duets, and group dance numbers. Students will dive deeper into developing vocal technique, dance and choreography skills, and acting tools to tell a full story through music using songs from classic and contemporary Broadway. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater and production design classes, supervised lunch with other classes, and an afternoon performance project with a live accompanist. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (July 31) to present material rehearsed in class.
2-Week Musical Theater Intensive: Triple Threat is for you if:
- You’ve studied musical theater before and want a more intensive, performance-based opportunity to explore it and/or
- You want a deeper dive into acting and vocal techniques and/or
- You’re excited to hone your skills as a “triple threat:” actor, singer, and dancer

In this 1-week intensive, actors will dive into the songs of iconic contemporary musicals such as Six, Bonnie & Clyde, Mean Girls, Beetlejuice, and more! Students of all levels of experience are welcome. Using hit solos and group numbers from Broadway shows, actors will explore vocal techniques, choreography, and song performance. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater and production design classes, supervised lunch with other classes, and an afternoon performance project with a live accompanist. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. 1-Week Musical Theater Intensive: Contemporary Broadway is for you if:
- You’ve taken some acting classes before and want to try out a new area of performance and/or
- You love to sing and dance and would like to develop your musical theater skill set and/or
- You’re a fan of the new musicals coming to Broadway and beyond
Middle School On-Camera Acting Intensives
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, June 15-18 (No Class on June 19): 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.

Interested in learning more about the on-camera industry? The commercial audition is an important part of an actor’s skill set. In this 1-week stage-acting intensive, young actors will learn fundamental tips for navigating audition self-tapes and on-set etiquette, learn about the film and television industry, and gain confidence being in front of the camera. Intensives include morning theater and production design classes, supervised lunch with other classes, and an afternoon performance project. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (June 18) to present material rehearsed in class.
4-Day On-Camera Intensive: Commercial Auditions is for you if:
- You’ve taken some acting classes and are curious about the differences between stage and on-camera techniques and/or
- You’d like to learn more about the film, television, and commercial acting industry and/or
- You’re curious about getting cast in commercial work
Schedule: Monday–Friday, July 6–17: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.

Let’s roll out the red carpet! This 2-week intensive will invite students to create their own short films. Through screenwriting, acting, and directing, actors will learn about the process of creating their own (mini!) movies. For filming components, students will need to bring a smart phone with video capability. (Please email for accommodation if you do not have one.) Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater and production design classes, supervised lunch with other classes, and an afternoon performance project. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (July 18) to present material rehearsed in class.
2-Week On-Camera Intensive: Original Short Films is for you if:
- You’ve taken some acting classes and want to deepen your on-camera performance skills and/or
- You love to film short videos and share them online and/or
- You’re excited to write, direct, and act in your own short films!
