Dive into the world of musical theater performance with the Musical Theater Workshop. Students of all levels of experience are welcome. Actors will explore:

  • Fundamentals of singing such as breath control, articulation, and vocal technique
  • Introduction to dance and improving confidence in movement abilities
  • Song and character interpretation and performance

Classes will meet once a week for six weeks. Unless otherwise stated, all classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios in San Francisco. There will be some assignments and memorization in between classes.  This intensive will culminate in a group showing to present projects, songs, and scenes rehearsed in class.  Have fun with peers while gaining some valuable musical theater skills!

Prerequisite: Prior YC Acting Workshop class or equivalent training

Scene work is an essential component of professional theater training. Learning how to work collaboratively with a scene partner and acting coach to discover/uncover the truth of a scene using script and character analysis, rhythm, tempo, listening, and other essential actor tools will be explored in this course.  This will be an in-person only course to allow actors to focus on give and take with a scene partner and listening and responding in the present moment. Under the guidance of Valerie Weak, scenes from the American contemporary theater canon will be curated especially for the enrolled actors during the first week to highlight strengths and encourage growth, and may be drawn from Anton Chekhov, Caryl Churchill, Sarah Ruhl, August Wilson, Naomi Iizuka, and more. This course is for students who have taken an Acting Workshop course previously and are eager to take their training to the next level. 

Classes will meet once a week for 8 weeks in person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios in San Francisco. There will be some assignments and memorization in between classes.This intensive will culminate in a public performance for an invited audience, including staff from A.C.T.’s artistic and casting team.

Prerequisite: prior YC On-Camera Acting Workshop class or equivalent training

Tuition: $345

Instructor: Brennan Pickman-Thoon

Interested in getting your start in the film and television industry? This course will focus on the intersection of audition technique and on-camera acting. This advanced class is designed for students who have taken On-Camera Acting Workshop or an equivalent class before. Actors will explore:

  • On-camera acting techniques versus stage techniques
  • Audition etiquette and tactics for success
  • Self-submissions and self-tape auditions
  • The business and industry of film, television, and commercial acting

Classes will meet once a week for eight weeks. Unless otherwise stated, all classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios in San Francisco. There will be some assignments and memorization in between classes.  This intensive will culminate in a group showing to present projects, monologues, and scenes rehearsed in class.  Have fun with peers while gaining some valuable acting and auditioning skills!

2-Day Intensive Class: ONLINE

Schedule: Sundays, February 20 & 27 from 10:30 a.m.–1 p.m. via Zoom

Podcasts are popular for a reason: they are an entertaining, personal, and informative way that a performer can reach an audience. This two-day workshop is a fun exploration in how to make a good podcast great. You will learn the finer details about creating content so that your podcast shines. No prior experience necessary. Each student will record their own podcast and receive a copy!
