Winter 2022 SESSION DATES:
January 19–March 4, 2023

In-person meetings will be held at our 30 Grant Avenue studios in San Francisco. Zoom links for all Feb 4 classes will be sent out by February 3.

Beginning January 1st, 2023, all students must provide proof of vaccination or exemption to participate, while mask wearing is optional. Please note that our COVID-19 safety policies are subject to change. 

Winter Session Refund Policy

  • Courses with insufficient enrollment will be canceled and all tuition and fees paid will be refunded in full.
  • Withdrawal and refund requests for any other reason must be made in writing and emailed to youngconservatory@act-sf.org.
  • Refund requests will be honored in full if received at least one week (7 days) prior to the start of the first class session. Class tuition will be refunded while the non-refundable registration and library fees will be withheld.
  • Should a refund request be made after the above deadline, a withdrawal fee will be withheld in addition to the standard non-refundable fees as follows.
    • After the refund deadline but before the first class date: $25 withdrawal fee
    • On or after the first class date of full-length classes: $45 withdrawal fee
  • Refunds of any kind cannot be processed after the start of the second class meeting for full-length courses or on the day of intensives.
  • Please allow 10-14 days for your refund to be processed.

Junior Classes

Schedule: Thursdays, January 19–March 2 from 4pm–6 pm at 30 Grant Ave
Tuition: $255

In the actor’s toolkit the two elements most essential to good character communication are the actor’s voice and the actor’s body. With an emphasis on comedy, this class introduces physical work to the junior level using tools such as improvisation, clowning, miming, and mask work. Students in this YC class will explore all these key components and learn how to create physical characters of their own. Students of all experience levels are welcome. This is a great class for actors who have taken an acting class or performed in a play or musical and want to explore their physical expression on stage more.  Actors will also explore:

  • Improvisation techniques such as spontaneity and the power of positive choice
  • Different types of physical theater, including commedia dell’arte
  • Physical storytelling and character development through movement

This course meets once a week for 7 weeks in-person at our 30 Grant Ave studios in San Francisco. There will be some assignments and memorization between classes. This course culminates in an “open class” on the final day where students present projects rehearsed in class to friends and family. Have fun with peers while learning valuable acting skills!

Schedule: Saturdays, January 21–March 4 from 10 am–12 pm at 30 Grant Ave*
*Class will be held Online via Zoom on February 4
Tuition: $255

This magical class invites actors to perform published and original material inspired by the characters and world of the Harry Potter series. Students of all levels of experience are welcome. Through games, monologues, and scene work, young actors will explore:

  • Theatrical skills such as tableaux, gesture, vocal production, and movement
  • Improvisation, playwriting, and story creation
  • Character creation through key tools including objective, obstacle, actions, and physicality
  • Scene and monologue performance

This course meets once a week for 7 weeks in-person at our 30 Grant Ave studios in San Francisco, with the February 4th class taking place online via Zoom. There will be some assignments and memorization between classes. This course culminates in an “open class” on the final day where students present monologues and scenes rehearsed in class to friends and family. Have fun with peers while learning valuable acting skills!

Schedule: Saturdays, January 21–March 4 from 1–3 pm at 30 Grant Ave*
*Class will be held Online via Zoom on February 4
Tuition:

Dive into the wonderful world of Disney and learn fundamental musical theater skills! Students with all levels of experience are welcome and this class can be repeated. Under the expert guidance of a lead instructor and live accompanist, actors will explore:

  • Singing fundamentals such as breath control, articulation, and vocal techniques
  • Introduction to dance and on-stage movement
  • Song and character improvisation, interpretation, and performance

This course meets once a week for 7 weeks in-person at our 30 Grant Ave studios in San Francisco, with the February 4th class taking place online via Zoom. There will be some assignments and memorization between classes. This course culminates in an “open class” on the final day where students present songs and projects rehearsed in class to friends and family. Have fun with peers while learning valuable musical theater skills!
