Classes will be held at our 30 Grant Avenue studios in San Francisco.
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all faculty and students, the YC will adhere to the most updated safety precautions recommended by San Francisco, county, and state guidance in effect at the time of class.
Winter Session Refund Policy
- Courses with insufficient enrollment will be canceled and all tuition and fees paid will be refunded in full.
- Withdrawal and refund requests for any other reason must be made in writing and emailed to youngconservatory@act-sf.org.
- Refund requests will be honored in full if received at least one week (7 days) prior to the start of the first class session. Class tuition will be refunded while the non-refundable registration and library fees will be withheld.
- Should a refund request be made after the above deadline, a withdrawal fee will be withheld in addition to the standard non-refundable fees as follows.
- After the refund deadline but before the first class date: $25 withdrawal fee
- On or after the first class date of full-length classes: $45 withdrawal fee
- Refunds of any kind cannot be processed after the start of the second class meeting for full-length courses or on the day of intensives.
- Please allow 10-14 days for your refund to be processed.

Junior Classes
Schedule: 7 Tuesdays: Jan 16, 23, 30, Feb 6, 13, 20 & 27 from 4:15–6:15 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave
Tuition: $275
Dream. Create. It all starts with an idea! Students will learn practical theater fundamentals through creating stories from their own imaginations. Teachers will guide students to get on their feet and act out scenes that they create! Actors will explore improvisation, playwriting and character creation, along with theatrical skills and performance. Classes will meet once a week for 7 weeks. Students will have 2 hours of training per week in-person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios in San Francisco with some minimal assignments and memorization in between classes. This course will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (February 27) to present material rehearsed in class.
JR Acting: Bring Your Stories to Life! is for you if:
- You’re a storyteller and you want to see your creations come to life and/or
- You’re a performer who’s interested in learning how to write plays and/or
- You want a place to unleash your imagination and creativity
Schedule: 7 Thursdays: Jan 18, 25, Feb 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 4:15–6:15 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave

Gain confidence and expand your acting knowledge with JR Acting: The Actor’s Toolbox! This fundamental course for young actors is designed to give students foundational knowledge of acting principles, theatrical skills, improvisation, and text performance. Students of all levels of experience are welcome, and this class can be repeated. Classes will meet once a week for 7 weeks. Students will have 2 hours of training per week in-person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios in San Francisco with some minimal assignments and memorization in between classes. This course will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (February 29) to present material rehearsed in class.
JR Acting: The Actor’s Toolbox is for you if:
- You’ve never studied acting before and want a fun and easy-going opportunity to explore it and/or
- You’ve taken some acting classes before and want to sharpen your skills and/or
- You’re shy and looking for an experience to help you emerge from your shell
Schedule: 6 Saturdays: Jan 20, 27, (no class Feb 3), Feb 10, 17, 24 & Mar 2 from 10 a.m–12 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave

This foundational class is designed to let the students’ imaginations run wild while exploring a variety of approaches to enhance the physical life of a character. Expect lots of physical and imaginative play inspired by mime, clowning, masks, and physical improvisation that help young actors develop a playful spirit and freedom on stage. Classes will meet once a week for 6 weeks (no class on Saturday, February 3.) Students will have 2 hours of training per week in-person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios in San Francisco with some minimal assignments and memorization in between classes. This course will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (March 2) to present material rehearsed in class.
JR Acting: Improvisation & Physical Character is for you if:
- You’ve taken some acting before and want to want to explore more physical theater and/or
- You want to develop your courage and flexibility onstage and off and/or
- You’d like discover/uncover your comedic instincts and laugh a lot
Schedule: 15 Saturdays: Jan 20–May 11 from 1 p.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave
Rehearsals: Jan 20, 27, (no class Feb 3), Feb 10, 17, 24, Mar 2, 9, 16, 23 (no class Mar 30), Apr 6, 13, 20, 27, May 4 & 11
Performance Date: Saturday, May 11 at 3pm

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza! Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
This musical theater 15-week intensive will culminate in a 1-hour performance of Seussical, Jr. Classes will meet once a week for 15 weeks (no class on Saturday, February 3 and March 30.) Students will have 2 hours of rehearsal per week in-person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios in San Francisco with assignments and memorization in between classes. The culminating performance open to friends and family will be at our 30 Grant Ave studios on Saturday, May 11 at 3 p.m.
JR 15-Week Musical Performance: Seussical, Jr. is for you if:
- You’ve taken some musical theater before and ready for a more advanced level, performance-oriented class and/or
- You’re eager to learn how to use your voice and movement to portray the story of the song and the character singing it and/or
- You’re ready to commit to a course which will ask you to do significant practice of material, both songs and blocking, outside of class time and/or
- You love Dr. Seuss and want to dive into the zany and beloved worlds he created
