Winter 2024 SESSION DATES:
January 16–March 2, 2023 

Classes will be held at our 30 Grant Avenue studios in San Francisco. 

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all faculty and students, the YC  will adhere to the most updated safety precautions recommended by San Francisco, county, and state guidance in effect at the time of class.

Winter Session Refund Policy

  • Courses with insufficient enrollment will be canceled and all tuition and fees paid will be refunded in full.
  • Withdrawal and refund requests for any other reason must be made in writing and emailed to youngconservatory@act-sf.org.
  • Refund requests will be honored in full if received at least one week (7 days) prior to the start of the first class session. Class tuition will be refunded while the non-refundable registration and library fees will be withheld.
  • Should a refund request be made after the above deadline, a withdrawal fee will be withheld in addition to the standard non-refundable fees as follows.
    • After the refund deadline but before the first class date: $25 withdrawal fee
    • On or after the first class date of full-length classes: $45 withdrawal fee
  • Refunds of any kind cannot be processed after the start of the second class meeting for full-length courses or on the day of intensives.
  • Please allow 10-14 days for your refund to be processed.

Middle School Classes

Schedule: 7 Thursdays: January 18, 25, Feb 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 4:30–6 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave
Tuition: $195

In this course, students will practice learning and generating movement sequences and phrases using Broadway show tunes. Objectives of the class include practicing character embodiment, developing a choreographic eye, and improving and gaining confidence in movement abilities. Students are not expected to sing and beginning movers are welcome! Classes will meet once a week for 7 weeks.  Students will have 1.5 hours of training per week in-person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios in San Francisco. This course will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (February 29) to present material rehearsed in class.

MS Musical Theater: Dance Workshop is for you if:

  • You’re new to dance and would like to explore some fundamental movement vocabulary in a fun atmosphere and/or
  • You’ve taken musical theater or singing and would like to explore this third part of the “triple threat” skill set and/or
  • You’re curious and ready for a physical theater experience that also allows you to play with character and acting

Schedule: 6 Saturdays: Jan 20, 27, (no class Feb 3), Feb 10, 17, 24 & Mar 2 from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave
Tuition: $275

Dive into the world of musical theater performance with the YC’s foundational Musical Theater class. Under the guidance of a lead instructor and live accompanist, actors will explore voice training, dance fundamentals, stage acting, and song performance. Students of all levels of experience are welcome, and this course may be repeated. Classes will meet once a week for 6 weeks (no class on Saturday, February 3.)  Students will have 2 hours of training per week in-person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios in San Francisco with some minimal assignments and memorization in between classes. This course will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (March 2) to present material rehearsed in class.

MS Musical Theater is for you if:

  • You’ve never studied musical theater before and want a fun and easy-going opportunity to explore it and/or
  • You’ve taken some acting classes before and want to try out a new area of performance and/or
  • You love to sing and dance and would like develop your musical theater skill set

 

 

Schedule: 6 Saturdays: Jan 20, 27, (no class Feb 3), Feb 10, 17, 24 & Mar 2 from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave
Tuition: $245

Interested in acting in film and television? Now’s your chance to get in front of the camera! Students of all levels of experience are welcome, and this course may be repeated. Guided by an on-camera specialist, actors will explore acting techniques, learn about the film and television industry, and gain confidence being in front of the camera. Classes will meet once a week for 6 weeks (no class on Saturday, February 3.) Students will have 2 hours of training per week in-person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios in San Francisco. There will be some minimal assignments and memorization in between classes.  This course will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (March 2) to present material rehearsed in class. 

MS On-Camera Acting is for you if:

  • You’ve taken some acting classes and are curious about the differences between stage and on-camera techniques and/or
  • You’d like learn more about the film, television, and commercial acting industry and/or
  • You’ve had experience in theater and are looking for a new acting medium

 

Schedule: 6 Saturdays: Jan 20, 27, (no class Feb 3), Feb 10, 17, 24 & Mar 2 from 1 p.m. –3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave
Tuition: $245

Build your confidence heading into any audition while learning and/or reviewing fundamental acting techniques this winter! Guided by a working Bay Area actor, this specialty acting class will focus on preparing and presenting audition material in the form of a standard monologue audition as well as the anatomy of an audition from start to finish. Topics will include monologue selection, callback preparation, resume building, audition etiquette, and more! Classes will meet once a week for 6 weeks (no class on Saturday, Feb 3.) Students will have 2 hours of training per week in-person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios in San Francisco with some minimal assignments and memorization in between classes. This course will culminate in a mock audition “open class” on the final hour of the final day (March 2) to present material rehearsed in class. 

MS Acting: Audition Focus is for you if:

  • You have taken some acting classes and would like help identifying repertoire that highlights your strengths and/or
  • You would like to hone your monologue audition skills in general or for a specific audition in the future and/or
  • You would like to learn techniques specific to preparing a monologue for performance
