“After two years of artistic scarcity, Fefu and Her Friends offers abundance, daring and vision”
“Highly pleasurable . . . nothing short of sublime”
“Captivating . . . a seriously good time”
“Much of the credit for the evening and its tour’s success must be given to the directorial prowess of A.C.T.’s Artistic Director, Pam MacKinnon”
“Crisp and cogent . . . fun and funny . . . top-notch cast”
Hailed as game-changing, provocative, and genius, Fefu and Her Friends is one of the most influential—and invisible—plays of the 20th century. An innovation of immersive theater, Cuban-American playwright María Irene Fornés’s rapturous comedy-drama allows the audience to be a fly on many walls in this unconventional tale of eight women gathering at a New England country home in 1935.
Utilizing the multi-storied, multi-roomed Strand Theater as non-traditional theater space, audiences will be broken up into four groups that independently tour Fefu’s home. Stories and histories come into play as you happen across conversations as Fefu’s bohemian and raucous cohorts gossip, question, flirt, provoke, and ultimately reveal (or hide?) the universal understandings between women. As muscular and searing in her deliberate use of language as Albee and Miller at their best; as acidic as Clare Boothe Luce’s iconic play The Women; and patron saint to blockbuster hits like Sleep No More—Fornés’s Fefu and Her Friends is an invitation to a theatrical experience like none other.

A.C.T. audiences can save 15% on La Bande restaurant and their legendary Tea Service. Just show your A.C.T. ticket stub to receive the discount.
We invite you to bring a plant to contribute to Fefu's garden in the Strand. For each performance, we'll create a collective garden of plants contributed by the audience.
After the show, we invite everyone who has brought a plant to take home a plant left by a neighbor—a living reminder of the experience you shared.
We recommend you bring a plant that is:
Portable. Since you'll be traveling with your plant to the theater, we recommend that you bring something easy to carry.
Durable. This is the perfect job for one of your hardy plants—succulents, pothos, snake plants.
Shareable. This is a great chance to bring something you would happily share with a stranger, with the knowledge that it may be exchanged for a mystery plant from another patron.
In addition to mature plants, we encourage you to consider potted cuttings or seedlings. Thank you for engaging in A.C.T.'s very first plant swap!
