2025 Tony nominee for Best Play

In a one-stoplight town in Georgia, in a high school AP English class, five young women begin questioning the stories and the heroes they’ve been taught to believe in, against a soundtrack of pop music and fury. As their class dissects a canonical work of literature, the parallels between the play and their own lives become uncomfortably real, and they begin to re-examine who we deem heroic, who we call a villain, and who gets burned in the process.

In a bold artistic collaboration, three of the nation’s leading regional theaters join forces to bring Kimberly Belflower’s explosive coming-of-age story to the West Coast. Centering young voices, this Broadway sensation and new cult classic ignites the kind of conversation that lingers long after the final bell.

"After having productions of John Proctor is the Villain in Washington, D.C., Boston, in colleges across the country, and on Broadway, I am over the moon to now bring my play to the West Coast,” said Belflower. “Having three of this country’s biggest and best theatres team up for this brand new production is already a dream come true. Add that to the fact that I finally get to work with Jess McLeod, a person I adore and director whose work I’ve admired from afar for some time, and I think it’s safe to say that San Francisco, Seattle, and Los Angeles audiences are in for one hell of a ride. Personally, I can’t wait."—Kimberly Belflower
