New York Stage Review

Friends. Enemies. Classmates. Based on a true story.

Direct from sold-out New York performances at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and a subsequent Off-Broadway run at Manhattan’s Classic Stage Company, the acclaimed OUR CLASS will be hosted by American Conservatory Theater (ACT) for 12 performances in February!

Ten Polish classmates — five Jewish and five Catholic — grow up as friends and neighbors, then turn on one another with life and death consequences. Inspired by real life events surrounding a horrific 1941 pogrom in a small Polish village, this shocking, timely story follows their lives from childhood through eight decades in a new contemporary production of Tadeusz Słobodzianek’s masterpiece, from Ukrainian-born Jewish director Igor Golyak.

OUR CLASS has received multiple award nominations: a Drama League Award Nomination for Outstanding Revival of a Play; an Outer Critics Circle Award Nomination for Outstanding Featured Performer in an Off-Broadway Play (Gus Birney, Dora); a Drama Desk Award Nomination for Outstanding Projection and Video Design (Eric Dunlap); and Henry Hewes Design Awards Nominations for Scenic Design (Jan Pappelbaum), Lighting Design (Adam Silverman), and Media Design (Eric Dunlap).

Content Disclosure: OUR CLASS contains material for adult audiences and mature themes. The production includes acts of violence, sexual assault, and antisemitic language, as well as the use of theatrical smoke and haze, and simulated gun shots. Recommended for ages 16+
