Workshops and Professional Development
Pre-show Workshops
We offer a free pre-show workshop designed to enhance your students’ theatergoing experience with every Student Matinee order that is placed one month or more in advance. Workshops are available to schools located within 60 minutes of our downtown San Francisco offices and will be planned to accommodate your teaching schedule and our teaching artist availability. (Schools more than 60 minutes from A.C.T. have the option of zoom workshops or in-person workshops for an additional fee.)
Custom Workshops for Students
Other reasonably priced, custom-designed workshops can take place at your school, on zoom, or at one of our venues. Our innovative, customized workshops are led by experienced arts educators and designed to meet your goals. Whether you want to introduce your class to a play’s plot and characters in advance, connect its themes to your curriculum, or prompt discussion and debate after the show, we can create a workshop that addresses your particular classroom needs. A.C.T. teaching artists offer a wide range of specialized skillsets including various acting styles, playwriting, physical theater, vocal performance, stage combat, clowning, consent-based collaboration, and much more. These educators bring extensive experience integrating their artistic skillsets into school and community settings, including developing age-appropriate curriculum and enhancing students’ social-emotional learning. (Pricing available upon request.)
Professional Development & Engagement for Educators
A.C.T.’s innovative and customized professional development opportunities are led by a diverse group of professional artists and educators from across the Bay Area with extensive experience in bringing theater into the classroom. Each workshop is customized to address your needs and to support any curriculum area. Workshops can take place on your campus, on zoom, or at an A.C.T. facility (depending on space availability).
Past collaborations have included:
- Workshops on how to activate social-emotional learning through theater.
- Intensives on theater-based arts integration, including customized lesson plans to support teaching academic curriculum through the performing arts.
- Drama program support, where A.C.T. technical and creative staff address the unique needs of a school’s theater and theater program.
- Intensive curriculum support, where our expert teaching artists meet with classroom teachers for one-on-one coaching.
- And much more!
