INTERSECTIONS

JUNE 28, 2024

Join us for a live onstage conversation with celebrated comedian and author Alok! This one-of-a-kind event includes screenings of the films Alok and There Are Things to Do — a doc portrait of Alok’s aunt, activist Urvashi Vaid. Alok director Alex Hedison will join Mike Syers, director of There Are Things to Do, for an enlightening onstage conversation about the legacy of activism and the continued importance of making your voice heard in support of LGBTQ+ rights.

Short films showing in this program:

ALOK

A compelling portrait of Alok, acclaimed non-binary author, poet, comedian, and public speaker. Executive produced by Jodie Foster, Alok is directed by Alex Hedison (The L Word) and features appearances from fellow queer influencers Dylan Mulvaney and Chani Nicholas.

THERE ARE THINGS TO DO

Urvashi Vaid, an outspoken immigrant, lesbian, and woman of color, was an LGBTQ+ superhero who helped shape the modern day gay rights movement. Her vision for the movement serves as a roadmap of initiatives and tools for generations of activists as they face anti-LGBTQ+ backlash.
