Summer 2024 SESSION DATES:
June 10–August 9, 2024 

Classes will be held at our 30 Grant Avenue studios in San Francisco.  

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all faculty and students, the YC  will adhere to the most updated safety precautions recommended by San Francisco, county, and state guidance in effect at the time of class.

Summer Session Refund Policy

  • Courses with insufficient enrollment will be canceled and all tuition and fees paid will be refunded in full.
  • Withdrawal and refund requests for any other reason must be made in writing and emailed to YoungConservatory@act-sf.org.
  • Requests will be honored if received by the designated date prior to the start of the given class (see below). Class tuition will be refunded while the non-refundable registration and library fees will be withheld.
  • Current Refund Deadlines (all deadlines are 11:59 p.m. on the date indicated)
    • Full tuition refund deadline: Saturday, April 1st, 2024
    • Refund with $100 withdrawal fee deadline: Monday, May 1st, 2024
    • 50% tuition refund deadline: the Sunday three weeks before the start of the class
    • Refunds of any kind will not be given after the above-stated deadline.
  • Please allow 10-14 days for your refund to be processed.

Middle School Intensives

Middle School Acting Intensives

Schedule: Monday–Friday, June 10–21: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.
(please note that while we will hold classes on Juneteenth, we will accommodate absences.)
Tuition: $825

In this 2-week intensive, actors will use theater to explore mythology and classic tales from around the world. Inspired by beloved stories like Percy Jackson, Magnus Chase, and other tales, actors will present a combination of published and original student-created material based on mythology. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater classes and an afternoon performance project. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (June 21) to present material rehearsed in class.

2-Week Acting Intensive: Myths, Legends, and Heroes is for you if:

  • You love mythology and want to act out classic tales (or put your own twist on it) and/or
  • You’re a performer who’s interested in learning how to create characters for the theater and/or
  • You love story building and want to bring your creative ideas to life

Get ready to laugh and learn foundational acting techniques as students explore some of the funniest scenes from contemporary and classical plays. Expect traditional scene work in addition to physical tools that help young actors develop a playful spirit and delight an audience. Actors will explore foundational acting skills, character creation, and scene performance. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater classes and an afternoon performance project with a live accompanist. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (June 28) to present material rehearsed in class.

1-Week Acting Intensive: Make ‘Em Laugh! is for you if:

  • You love acting and want to explore fun ways to create character and/or
  • You’re especially fond of comedy in TV, film and stage and tend to do bits yourself, or make people laugh and/or
  • You’d like to let go a little and discover/uncover your funny instincts, and laugh a lot

For seven years, a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs… who just happened to be there too. In this 2-week intensive, actors will explore characters and scenes from this hilarious, unofficial parody of Harry Potter. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater classes and an afternoon performance project. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (July 26) to present material rehearsed in class.

2-Week Acting Intensive: Puffs is for you if:

  • You love Harry Potter and want to dive into the the stories and characters from the play Puffs and/or
  • You’re excited to flex your acting (and comedic) skills in a condensed version of a play and/or
  • You want have fun and get silly when performing a magical comedy

Gain confidence in your playwriting abilities! This intro to playwriting intensive will give aspiring young writers the opportunity to learn the art of dramatic writing for the stage. Writers will learn how to translate ideas from imagination to the page, learn the workings of dramatic form and structure, and experience what it takes to bring a creative vision to life. Students will both write and perform material developed in class. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater classes and an afternoon performance project. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (July 26) to present material rehearsed in class.

1-Week Acting Intensive: Playwriting is for you if:

  • You are interested in the art of turning your ideas into a theatrical format and/or
  • You haven’t taken a playwriting class and you want to expand your knowledge in a fun environment and/or
  • You have taken some playwriting (or similar) theater making class and want to expand/deepen your knowledge

In this 1-week stage-acting intensive, young actors will take scenes and monologues from classic films and television shows and bring them to life. Using pieces from today’s hit shows and movies, students will explore theatrical skills, performance techniques, and translating characters from on-camera to on-stage. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater classes and an afternoon performance project. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (August 9) to present material rehearsed in class.

1-Week Acting Intensive: Scenes from Film and Television is for you if:

  • You were inspired to try acting from watching your favorite movie or television show and/or
  • You’ve tried on-camera acting and want to translate those skills to the stage and/or
  • You’re excited to bring on screen shows and movies like Stranger Things, Wednesday, and Barbie to life

Middle School Musical Theater Intensives

Broadway Showcase focuses on essentials for the “triple threat” musical theater performer: acting, singing, and dancing. In this 2-week intensive, actors will develop performance skills through solo songs, duets, and group dance numbers. Students will dive deeper into developing vocal technique, dance and choreography skills, and acting tools to tell a full story through music using classic songs from Broadway. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater classes and an afternoon performance project with a live accompanist. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (June 21) to present material rehearsed in class.

2-Week Musical Intensive: Broadway Showcase is for you if:

  • You’ve studied musical theater before and want a more intensive, performance-based opportunity to explore it and/or
  • You want a deeper dive into acting and vocal techniques and/or
  • You’re excited to hone your skills as a “triple threat:” actor, singer, and dancer

Schedule: Monday–Friday, July 15–19: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.

Take a deep dive into your favorite Disney musicals, including Newsies, Frozen, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and more! Using iconic Disney music and characters as inspiration, students will learn the fundamentals of singing, dance, and musical performance. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater classes and an afternoon performance project with a live accompanist. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (July 19) to present material rehearsed in class.

1-Week Musical Intensive: Disney on Broadway is for you if:

  • You love to sing and dance and would like develop your musical theater skill set and/or
  • You have fond memories of watching Disney stories on-screen (or on-stage) and/or
  • You want the challenge of bringing animated characters to life on the stage

  • You love to sing and dance and would like develop your musical theater skill set and/or
  • You’ve taken some acting classes before and want to try out a new area of performance and/or
  • You love that Halloween vibe any time of year!

  • You’ve taken some acting classes before and want to try out a new area of performance and/or
  • You love to sing and dance and would like develop your musical theater skill set and/or
  • You’re a fan of the new musicals coming to Broadway and beyond

Middle School On-Camera Acting Intensives

Schedule: Monday–Friday, June 17–21: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 30 Grant Ave.

Interested in acting in film and television? Now’s your chance to get in front of the camera! Guided by an on-camera specialist, actors will explore acting techniques, learn about the film and television industry, and gain confidence being in front of the camera. Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater classes and an afternoon performance project. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (June 21) to present material rehearsed in class.

1-Week On-Camera Intensive is for you if:

  • You’ve taken some acting classes and are curious about the differences between stage and on-camera techniques and/or
  • You’d like learn more about the film, television, and commercial acting industry and/or
  • You’ve had experience in theater and are looking for a new acting medium

Let’s roll out the red carpet! This 2-week intensive will invite students to create their own short films. Through screenwriting, acting, and directing, actors will learn about the process of producing their own (mini!) movies. For filming components, students will need to bring a smart phone with video capability. (Please email for an accommodation if you do not have one.) Classes will be held in-person at our 30 Grant Avenue Studios in San Francisco. Intensives include morning theater classes and an afternoon performance project. There may be some assignments and memorization between classes. This intensive will culminate in a group showing “open class” on the final hour of the final day (July 19) to present material rehearsed in class.

2-Week On-Camera Intensive: Short Films is for you if:

  • You’ve taken some acting classes and want to deepen your on-camera performance skills and/or
  • You love to film short videos and share them online and/or
  • You’re excited to write, direct, and act in your own short films!
