Performance Opportunities
About YC Performance Opportunities
In addition to year-round training in our classes, the YC offers audition-only performance opportunities for young actors to apply what they’re studying in classes to the stage. Performance opportunities include our Cabaret, Actors Ensemble, and a full production in the Fall or Summer. A.C.T.'s mainstage season also includes A Christmas Carol, which casts an ensemble of young actors ages 8-13.

Show/Program Descriptions
ACTORS ENSEMBLE PROGRAM (MS, HS)
The Young Conservatory Actors Ensemble is a unique performance ensemble for serious young actors in grades 6–8 (Middle School) and 9-12 (High School.) Each ensemble opportunity features a themed acting project or condensed play directed by a professional guest artist. Acceptance into the Actors Ensemble is by audition only, rehearses twice a week for six or seven weeks, and culminates in a performance for family and friends in A.C.T.'s Garret stage at the Toni Rembe Theater.
The Actors Ensembles are named "Tennessee" (MS) and "Lorraine" (HS) after renowned American playwrights Tennessee Williams and Lorraine Hansberry.
WINTER 2024 ACTORS ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS
High School Actors Ensemble: A Midsummer Night’s Dream: The power of PLAY and TYA!
Auditions: Monday, December 4 from 4 p.m.–8 p.m
So many Theatre for Young Audience (TYA) shows are written by adults trying to speak as young people. But what if teens rather than adults created new works that engaged more directly with young people? Performers in the Actor's Ensemble will take the well-known classic, Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream, and reimagine it as a one-act play for young audiences. They will gain skills in generative thinking, devising, adapting new work, and creating from a specific lens. The best part will be reconnecting with the playful parts of themselves to create the most engaging version of their new show for young audiences!
Middle School Actors Ensemble: Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel
Auditions: Tuesday, December 5 from 4:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m
This winter, the Middle School Actor’s Ensemble will perform excerpts from the award-winning play Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel about five sisters who carve out their lives, rekindle relationships, and find connection with their community. This play has rich and poetic language, heartfelt scenes, and great opportunities for artistic growth. Under the guidance of master artist Andy Alabran, actors will dive deep into this exquisite play's themes of hope, struggle, and love.
All applicants must audition in person at our 30 Grant Ave Studios, 8th floor. To be considered, complete the Actors Ensemble Audition Form by Monday, November 20 at 5pm. Click on the Audition Information Sheet to learn more!

CABARET PROGRAM (MS, HS)
A.C.T.'s Young Conservatory Cabaret Program is an advanced-level musical theater training and performance program that casts young actors each season in three groups of 12–18. These groups will meet weekly and hold performances from September to April with the culminating Best of the Best concert in late May/early June. The three Cabaret Ensembles are named after the Schuyler Sisters from Hamilton: "Angelica," "Eliza," and "Peggy."
